If you wander enough about the northern region you have some chances of finding it just as the Iron Ore.

If u wanna make a ruby globe u can just do the main quests. Some bosses drop 1 ruby globe.

I Found Ruby shards in the northern regions, too. Go far enough north and you will find some. I found 3 ruby ores in the same map one time.

there are places where they have a higher chance of being obtained. Like in swampy places you will have a higher chance of getting a emerald shard than anywhere else. In the icy places you will have a higher chance of getting a sapphire shard than anywhere else. In volcanic areas you will have a higher chance of getting ruby shards than anywhere else. For gold, the best place to look for it is in volcanic areas.

Whoa, I just tried it and I actually got a ruby shard really fast. Maybe it was just luck?
