- - - CONCEPT - - -(e.g. the world of the game generally / the main idea / the story: sad or happy? / the environment: light, dark, nature, urban? / Well defined Genre or total new gameplay? / New Ideas or Clichees / Presentation, etc)So this game lets experience you an adventure: The demon Akron, which origination was unknown, has awaken, and his rise seemed to be unstoppable - but there happened to be three warriors, sharing a strong friendship, controlling skills that even the mightiest knights (Volcano: Captain Targold, Vegetable Forest: Leader Lancelot) and the wisest grand mages from the far east (Rock lake: 'Maria') were incapable of casting! There was hope Akrons Terror could find an end soon ...
Epic Battle Phantasy 3 continues where the second part ended. It has a really good concept and neither the story nor the gameplay lose - unlike many other games of this genre - over the dungeons their depth:
It is a brillant RPG game and you soon will fall in love with both the world and the charakters who are presented as cute, young adventurers having a happy, action-loving and curious sentimentality - though each of them also has individual charakteristics. Dialogues are often, making the game lively, and really nice - I can't think of many where a rewrite would be any good!
- - - ATMOSPHERE - - -(e.g. Tilesets [but not mapping] / Battle Backgrounds / Foe Details / Movement Animations / Music / Attacking Sounds, walking sounds [e.g. snails and crabs at the beginning of a battle] etc.)The atmosphere of the game is simply awesome - look at the trees, the bushes, the grass with its mushrooms, flowers and pieces of clay.
The details are stunning - at the Rock Lake you find lovely drawn corals, algae; at Glacier snow sculptures, snowy trees and at the Kitten Ruins a large variety of statues, pots and cacti (plural of cactus, btw). The tilesets are well fitting as are the songs.
- - - LIVELINESS - - -(e.g. Way of Storytelling: Comics, movie sequences, images, texts, narrations / Dialogues / Charakteristics of the Heroes / Realistic Reactions etc)Another highlight of this game is its liveliness: Dialogues are fun and clever, and to be honest, I loved them all. They were hilarious and always managed to raise my mood!
I also understood and liked the actions and reactions of the protagonists, their plans and other. It's so long ago that I've played a game where the charakters actually behaved realistic and lively!
- - - RPG SPECIFIC - - -(e.g. Dungeon Mapping, Treasure Placing / Skill & Equipement Balance / Foe & Heroe Design / Puzzles etc.)While I want to mention I really enjoyed playing all dungeons, I need to say the best was the Kitten Ruins Dungeon because of overall treasure placing, mapping and the stunningly fun to solve puzzles!
The Skill and Equipment Balance was "okay", but it would have been extremely hard to get it to something better. A GIGANTIC PLUS for the elemental foe combined with the elemental weapon combined with the elemental skill system, as I already said. It is making it necessary to change equipment for each boss (especially on hard difficulties).
This RPG simply has everything it needs. You won't see something as big and as structed as this until the next Epic Battle Fantasy comes out. Think of how many things you can do, and about all the equipping and costumizing!
To end this review just the way it suits ... when playing Epic Battle Fantasy 3, the RPG gameplay feeling in you gets an UPDATE.
Probably, the worlds most current and biggest update yet.
