Nope, hence the term "Press Release". Basically meaning that information will be released to the public.

No no, Sokki is right, because you weren't using it in the means of letting information go public.

Announcments are either made or announced, but not released. They're telling you about what is coming next, so it is pretty much information, but this doesn't mean you can use the same words for it as for "information".
